Introduction
El Cotillo is a relatively sleepy fishing village on the north west
coast of Fuerteventura. It is a village that is growing but
still retains much of it’s charm. In common with most towns and
villages in Fuerteventura, El Cotillo hosts a fiesta each year. As each town and village hosts their fiesta at a different time
of year in Fuerteventura, it is said that one can enjoy a fiesta
365 days a year on this island!
The fiesta of El Cotillo is held during the
last two weeks of August. August is
also the month when all of Spain goes on holiday. This ensures
that the El Cotillo fiesta is always well attended and runs for two
weeks rather than the more common one week or so.
The following pages started off as an email
from a local resident to some friends
to try and convey the essence of the El Cotillo fiesta. After
the first email, requests flooded in to continue the
commentary. As you will see from the following
personal and slightly tongue in cheek reports, the commentary
went on and on...
We hope you enjoy reading about the El Cotillo
fiesta as much as everyone enjoyed being involved.
